No, the agent is passive and is invoked only when necessary. The server will connect via SSH and invoke it. Effectively sshd is the long-running daemon process. The agent is the ctl command. If you are using the Script-driven approach you do not even need the Client agent installed on the remote node. The ctl-exec command is used for this mode of operation.
