Does the Commitment to Delawareans guarantee admission to a specific major?
No, while the UD Commitment to Delawareans holds out the promise of admission to the Newark campus, it doesn’t guarantee admission to one’s first choice of a major. For example, a Delawarean who meets the UD Commitment requirements and wants to major in music is still required to pass a music audition. If the student does not pass the audition, he or she will be offered admission into University Studies – Undeclared. In addition, certain majors require greater preparation in math and/or science. For example, students interested in majoring in engineering are expected to take pre-calculus or calculus in high school in order to be successful in that major. A total of 20 academic credits are required. Two of the credits must be ABOVE college prep (Academic Challenge or Advanced Placement). The remaining 18 academic credits must be at the “College Prep” level or above.
