Does the Commissioner handle environmental complaints? If not, who does?
The Commissioner has four functions spelt out in the legislation. None of these functions relate to the Commissioner undertaking an environmental ombudsman role and hence pursing public complaints on environmental issues. Environmental concerns such as noise, air pollution, chemical discharges, destruction of native habitat are handled by the respective existing agencies including local government, the Environment Protection Authority and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
