Does the Commission take follow-up action in certain complaint cases?
In some cases where the facts of the complaint and the institution’s response raise significant accrediting issues and may best be reviewed by peer reviewers on-site at the institution, the Commission may forward the complaint to an evaluation team already scheduled to make an upcoming comprehensive or focused evaluation to look further at the issues. In rare cases, where the issues are exceptionally serious and far-reaching, the Commission may schedule a special on-site evaluation visit to consider the accrediting issues further. Only the Commission’s Board of Trustees can take an accrediting action to withdraw an institution’s status or apply a sanction such as probation, and such actions only occur after an institution has been given ample notice of deficiencies, an opportunity to respond, and an opportunity to take corrective action.
