Does the Comit d’Aide Mdicale respond only to humanitarian emergencies ?
No. The association has two mandates. The first is to respond to humanitarian emergencies (natural or man-made disasters). The second is to develop projects and work with beneficiaries on sustainable health systems. Development is at the heart of CAM’s mandate, as shown by the following two examples. Our mission in the Ukraine started in 1992 and today has expanded to cover a disability program, a mental health program and a program to fight Tuberculosis. This mission has undergone some incredible changes since it first opened and for the past two and a half years, the mission has been run entirely by nationals. In addition, a Comit d’Aide Mdicale Ukraine was recently founded in the region. In Congo Brazzaville, our first project started in 1994. Since the end of the civil war, we have carried out several projects in the development and rehabilitation of the health system.
