Yes. The City of Yankton requires building permits for new structures and alterations to existing structures. Permits are also required for siding, shingling, decks, sidewalks and driveway reconstruction. The purpose of building permits is to monitor work and activities performed within the public right-of-way. Issuing permits assures that plans comply with Public Works specifications. A building permit can be obtained form the Department of Public Works located on the first floor of City Hall at 416 Walnut.
