Does the City of Oskaloosa have a severe weather outdoor warning system?
Yes, the emergency outdoor warning system is activated whenever the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for Oskaloosa. Additionally, actual sightings of tornadoes by law enforcement personnel or other reliable sources are grounds for activating the warning system, as well as when severe weather is within ten miles of the city limits of Oskaloosa. Two important notes: the system is routinely tested at 2:00 pm on the first Monday of each month from April through October, weather permitting, and we do not issue an “all clear” siren. For additional information, please refer to local radio and television stations – please do not call the police department during severe weather situations – unless you have an actual emergency.
