Does the Christian Notion of Sin Matter in Secular Politics? Thursday June 14, 2007 In Christian theology, the idea of sin is very important. In American civil politics, though, does it have any relevance whatsoever? It’s difficult to imagine any legitimate set of circumstances where that question could be answered positively, yet that’s exactly what appears to be the case in America today because a respectable, mainstream news organization had a leading reporter ask a leading contender for the Democratic nomination for president about his sins. Edwards revealed that he prays and sins every day. The crowd gasped loudly when moderator Soledad OBrien asked Edwards to name the biggest sin he ever committed, and he won their applause when he said he would have a hard time naming one thing.
