Does the charity get less money through the GCWCC, because of administration charges?
There is a common misconception that there are large overhead costs associated with donating through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) and that your chosen charity would receive a greater percentage of your donation if it were made directly to the charity. As managers of the GCWCC, United Way/Centraide is committed to ensuring that more of your gift goes to where you feel its needed most. They are proud to keep campaign fundraising and administrative fees at 15% or lower well below the national average of 26% for other registered Canadian charities. In fact, the NCR campaign has kept those costs at the 12% mark for the past few years. The reason for this difference in administration costs is that charities often run mail or phone advertising campaigns, maintain donor databases, and administer tax receipts, all which can be quite expensive. Donors who donate through the GCWCC do so anonymously and will not be contacted by the individual charities unless they
