Does the CDC recommend vaccinating adults to prevent transmission to infants?
Yes. Infants have the highest risk for morbidity and mortality associated with pertussis, therefore, adults (≤64 years of age) who have or anticipate having close contact with infants should receive a single dose of Tdap vaccine to protect against pertussis if they have not previously received Tdap vaccine.3 The spirit of these recommendations is to help prevent the spread of pertussis to vulnerable infants.
