Does the Catholic Church think its still the Middle Ages and the US is their Theocracy?”
I see no bishops’ mitres on Obama, nor on anyone in the Senate, House, or Supreme Court. Therefore, it’s safe to say we have no Theocracy (government run by priests). ” ’Judge not lest ye be judged.’ Shouldn’t they leave this type of issue in the hands of God?” you ask. Well, the Church has no authority to change the moral laws that were delivered to Moses millenia ago, and were clarified by Jesus and the Holy Spirit. That being the case, the Church feels it is “leaving this type of issue in the hands of God.” The Church feels God has spoken about it, and the Church, as the corporate embodiment of the Suffering Servant of God, must obey God’s Word and the Sacred Tradition the Church has received. The Church doesn’t make or change the laws of God, but strives to safeguard them and faithfully follow them (though individual members of the Church are, of course, sinners, needing, and hopefully seeking, forgiveness). There is no need for anyone (not necessarily you, dear Maximum20characters
