Does the British Army/Navy/RAF etc do scientific research?
In 1991, the UK national Defence Research Agency (DRA) was formed through the union of a number of government research organisations which, in 1995, became the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA). In July 2001, QinetiQ was founded from the partition of DERA into two separate organisations DSTL and QinetiQ. In February 2003, QinetiQ became a public private partnership with US-based Carlyle Group being the equity investor. QinetiQ was then floated on the London stock market in February 2006.
