Does the breathable liquid from the movie “The Abyss” actually exist?
It in fact does exist, but is HIGHLY dramatized in the movie! Free breathing liquid doesn’t exist due to the fact that the viscosity of a liquid is much higher then a gas (by 850 times) so a machine does it for you using technology to monitor your respiratory needs and adjusts as necessary. It is mainly used for medical proposes in premature babies and for adults who have Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
