Does the blood condition Thalassemia Minor have any negative side effects such as…?
Not to my knowledge. In fact, I know several folks with Thalassemia Minor, and they do quite well. Now, thinking about it, it can cause minor oxygenation problems, especially in harsh conditions. So if, say, you were a heavy snorer with sleep apnea, you might have a little more trouble with body fat. If you were a mountain climber, you might get tired more readily. In re: athletics and anemia in general, the athlete’s performance may decline, and may complain of burning thighs and nauseas when doing anaerobics. Hmm, you would probably need to take iron supplements, and folic acid tablets, although most sources say the iron is not overly beneficial — if it were a bad thalassemia, it would require removal of excess iron from the blood, but not for the minor. Thalassemia minor may also cause an enlarged spleen, in rare instances, but this is more common with the Thalassemia major form. Also, there is an increased rate of bilirubin stones, so that translates to an increased rate of gallbl
