Does The Blind Side Deserve Oscar Glory?
Based on an inspirational true story, The Blind Side has become a huge success and popular because it is a great feel-good movie. You really do leave the theatre feeling uplifted. It restores your belief in the goodness of people. This kind of movie is normally popular because families like seeing it and tell their friends about it. However, critics often overlook these movies in favour of more dramatic or artistic films. The Blind Side, though, has been nominated for two awards at the 2010 Oscars: Best Picture and (Sandra Bullock) Best Actress in a Leading Role. This is a small Oscar presence compared to some movies. The Hurt Locker, for example, won multiple awards at the BAFTAs and other award ceremonies, and is in the running in a staggering nine categories a the Oscars. Although it can’t compete in profits with Avatar, The Blind Side grossed more than many of its Best Picture competitors, and is set to make a lot more.
