Like so many issues that we face today, the Bible doesn’t directly address the issue of smoking. However, the Bible does set forth several important principles that can help us to think biblically about smoking. First of all, the Bible teaches that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we do not own our bodies. I Corinthians 6:19-20 states, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Smoking has been shown to be harmful. I am responsible to stay as healthy and fit as possible. It is with the body that God has given me that I am to glorify Him.
