Does the Bible encourage slavery ?
Answer by John: Regarding slavery — the New Testament (which is the Christian’s primary source of doctrine) sets an example for us in the book of Philemon — where a slave-owner is asked by the apostle Paul to take back a slave as a brother rather than as a slave. It was based on this example that Christians started the Abolitionist movement (the anti-slavery movement) and were successful in stopping much of the slave trade around the world.
