Does the band actually do any playing on the train ride itself?
I played the banjo some on the train the past two years, but the entire band did not play on the train. There is just not room for the band, sound equipment, and riders to give a concert in one car of the train. There is enough room for a banjo, guitar, and harmonica. We roamed around on the train. It’s definitely live music. We played en-route, but saved most of it for the main concert. The other guys in the band went to Kensington, set up the PA, and were set-up, tuned-up and ready to play when the train arrived. The concert was in a field on beside the track. The passengers disembarked and set up their lawn chairs. Most people brought along a picnic supper and ate while we played. There was a tent set up large enough for everybody to be under if there was rain, but it was not needed. Before we played, the crew moved the train away so the noise of the diesel engine would not drown out the music. The concert this year will be at the airport in LaFayette.
