Does the Balloon Boy family really deserve the “presumption of innocence?
The presumption of innocence is at the core of the American justice system, so I do not see it as a matter of being deserved or not, it is what is mandated by the American Constitution. The moment that one where to even contemplate providing some leeway in when presumption of innocence is to be applied or not is a day when the basic freedoms of the American justice system begin to crumble. It is for the same reason that I have always felt uneasy about the whole enemy combatant issue.
