Does the background color of my tag design count toward the number of ink colors?
• Not if the background color is black or white; otherwise yes. Tag blanks come in black or white to begin with, so one of those colors will already be accounted for by the color of the tag stock. Other background colors are achieved by printing colored ink on top of white tag blanks. On such tags, of course, white that is used for lettering or other art does not count as an ink color, since the white lettering and art are just areas of unprinted tag surface.
