Civilian years of experience do not translate to military years of experience in the pay scale. You will start out at 0 years experience. Civilian experience can count toward a high rank though. So if you have a Bachelors degree you can come in as a Specialist if you decide to go Enlisted. Officers all have Bachelors degrees. I’ve seen doctors come in at Captain due to their civilian experience.
