Does the ARC accept faxed certifications from overseas PIs or Collaborating Organisations?
Yes, acceptance of fax copies is consistent with the Electronic Transactions Act 1999, which the ARC as a Commonwealth body should comply with. The general principle of this Act is designed to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy and recognise the technology now available: “For the purposes of a law of the Commonwealth, a transaction is not invalid because it took place wholly or partly by means of one of more electronic communications.” “…. a person required to give information in writing, that requirement is taken to have been met if the person gives the information by means of an electronic communication ….” Please ensure the faxed copy is inclusive of the completed proposal and forwarded to the ARC, in its entirety (together with an identical photo-copy) as a formal application submission. The PI or Collaborating Organisation should send the original signature by mail for ANU to keep on file.
