Does the amount differ for international versus domestic flights?
Farhat: Warsaw specifies compensation in case of international flights. In the case of domestic flights, compensation goes back to the interior laws of the country, not the international convention. So it depends on the country. In the US, for example, it’s the same as Warsaw. Is the compensation for the victims automatic or do you have go to court? Farhat: Usually, insurance companies pay unless there was no insurance. If there was a fatal error, it will force the carrier to pay more than the required sum. In this case, it goes to court, and the court will decide how much. The international laws define the compensation for normal [and understandable] mistakes. Would the compensation differ between families of Lebanese passengers and Ethiopian passengers? Farhat: No. Supposedly it’s the same. It won’t be harder for Ethiopians to claim the money.
