Does the American Cancer Society reach out to diverse communities?
The Society has made a significant investment in research and education to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities related to health care. We are improving screening and survival rates among diverse populations. In New York and New Jersey, we’re collaborating with local health care providers to provide free screening to the uninsured and underinsured. We’ve opened a patient service call center to communicate with patients in more than 100 languages. Most recently, we’ve undertaken a major advocacy initiative for universal access to health care. Late diagnosis and cancer mortality is directly linked to being uninsured.
