DOES THE AHP ALLOW WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP?

The AHP recognizes the divinely ordained leadership role of men in the family, the church and the state. Article VII of our party constitution, “Qualifications for Leaders and Candidates,” lists the Biblical qualifications for character and leadership exclusively in the masculine gender. The AHP does not currently have any female officers however women have shared in our formative process. Since our founding convention, we have considered the question of women in leadership and have reflected on the Biblical history of Deborah’s leadership as a judge, and on the clear prohibition of women in authority over men within the Church. We recognize that there may be a rare exception, especially in the case of the absence of Biblically qualified male political leaders/candidates. At this time, while there is general agreement that positions of leadership should be held by men, the AHP does not explicitly prohibit consideration of women for party leadership or candidacy.
