Does that speak to the core of the type of character Superman is?
They both are products of their childhood. Bruce is Batman first because his parents were killed, but Clark is Clark first because his parents lived. If Superman weren’t a Kansas farmboy at heart, he really would be insufferable. He’s so powerful. But he was taught humility and compassion by his adopted parents, which is one thing the Smallville television show really got right early on. I think what you said about your time writing Superman was pretty interesting. You focused on the marriage of Lois and Clark, which is much different than, say, fighting Doomsday. For a character that’s been around as long as Superman, is that what you have to do to keep it fresh? Look for a new angle, such as what Geoff Johns had done by taking him off Earth and to a “New Krypton?” That story was the brainchild of a group of writers, I believe, not to take anything away from Geoff. But sure, part of the fun of working in a long-running shared universe is coming up with new situations and challenges. T
