Does taurine help brain development in children?
Taurine is known to be most concentrated in human brain cells during neonatal life. The level of taurine in children’s brain is found to be 4 times higher than that in adults. Thus, it plays an important role in children’s brain development. Taurine is also found in the central nervous system. It helps to regulate neurotransmissions (nerve functions) – epileptics have been demonstrated to have low levels of taurine in regions of their brain.
