Does taking 200 hours of ASL guarantee acceptance into the ASL – English interpreter program?
No. ASL is a fully fledged language just like any other language. It requires skill and facility with language. Some people will learn ASL more easily than others. Applicants should be aware that the skill level we are looking for is roughly equivalent to 200 hours of ASL classes. Please keep in mind that some applicants may have completed 200 hours of classes and yet do not demonstrate the required level of skills; while others may only take 150 hours and are able to demonstrate the required level of skills. Similarly, applicants who complete the ADSP program are not guaranteed acceptance into the interpreter program. All applicants are treated equally and are accepted based on demonstration of the appropriate ASL and English skills.
