Does switching formula type affect colic?

Often physicians will recommend switching to a soy formula or hydrosylate formula (such as Pregestimil, Nutramigen, or Alimentum). This may be helpful in some infants and is a relatively benign treatment. If milk protein allergy is suspected, an amino-acid based formula (such as Neocate or Elecare) may be tried. If the infant is breastfed, removing typically allergenic foods from the mother’s diet may be helpful (for example – milk, eggs, nuts, shellfish). This should be discussed with your physician.
