Does SWGIT help agencies solve cases?
SWGIT does not solve cases. Following the SWGIT guidelines will help agencies with the best ways to capture, process, and preserve their images with goal to ensure the admissibility of the images in court. Few things are more frustrating than to do a lot of work on an investigation only to find out the images cannot be used in court because proper procedures were not followed. To help with this issue, SWGIT has developed several guidelines, many of which include sample standard operating procedures (SOP), to assist street cops, crime scene investigators, laboratory examiners, managers and anyone using images. Several SWGIT documents have been recognized and cited in courts during Daubert, FRYE and other hearings as the best practice guidelines for the criminal justice community.
