Does swaddling interfere with a baby’s motor development?
No, swaddling does not prevent development of sitting or crawling. Babies are usually swaddled during the sleep period only i.e. nighttime or nap time. Most big muscle activity is taking place during the day when the baby is not swaddled. Native American tribes often swaddled their babies with the arms down until they were 6 months old and their children were well known for being brave, coordinated and independent.
