Does Sun require JUGs to register on java.net?

A. (jug leaders mailing post by Marla Parker — java.net Community Mgr. on 5/19/08) “….As Community Manager, I want to reiterate the point that we in no way expect or require JUGs to be hosted on java.net, and JUGs in particular and projects in general that are “only” linked projects, meaning that they are listed in our Projects Directory but they are hosted elsewhere and have our java.net member button somewhere on the home page, are still absolutely considered part of the aggregated java.net community. For JUGs, the most substantial benefit of being a member of java.net (linked or hosted) is that you are in the same community as Sun’s JUG Program, which means you get better communications with Aaron. That alone seems worth the bother of joining and putting the member button on your site….” Marla java.
