Does sucking poison out of a snake bite work?

I know the boy scouts and other groups have reccommended it for years, BUT the medical and herpetological communities advise strongly against it nowdays… you can cause further tissue damage to the site of the bite and heaven forbid the person who does the sucking has an open mouth wound. remain as calm as possible (higher heart rate = quicker spread of venom through the body), try to keep the bite LOWER than the heart (you’re not trying to stop bleeding, you’re trying to keep the venom localized), apply a tourniquet (if it’s a very serious bite and it’s going to be a while before you get to the hospital), and get yourself to the nearest hospital and they will administer antivenin if necessary.
