It does especially in the kicking department as the muscles are longer and being stretched and extended as the kick is being done. So for legs and kicking it is extremely important. Some light stretching and brief cardio at the end of your workouts helps prevent stiffness and soreness as well as keep you from tightening up and help get rid of some of the lactic acid build up in your muscles. That’s what they mean by a “cool down”. Good fighters, runners and others do this for that reason rather than just stop and sit which is not a “cool down”. By doing some light cardio and stretching they keep the heart rate elevated slightly and the blood circulation faster and better which carries away all the lactic acid build up.
