Does Strathcona County support the new library?
Public library service is a municipal responsibility, and Strathcona County has supported this vital service since a grassroots movement got the ball rolling to bring library service to this community. When the library first opened in 1977, it was housed in the new County Hall building. Due to space limitations, the library has been temporarily housed in rented space at the Sherwood Park Mall since 1992. Now that a Community Centre is being constructed, it will be possible to bring the public library back into the heart of the community. Strathcona County recognizes all of the benefits that a vibrant, dynamic public library brings to the community, and it supports the new library project. Strathcona County Library is excited to be part of the new Community Centre that will include a new art gallery, a large public gathering place, and many more public meeting rooms.
