I have used Special Effects before. Bleaching is permanent. There is no non permanent way to lighten your hair. Special effects can fade to funny colors especially if you don’t totally bleach out your hair first. If you really want to dye your hair with special effects I recommend bleaching it first, I have used it on bleached and unbleached hair, and it looked a lot better when my hair was bleached, and the color held better. After you don’t want the color any longer just dye it the color you want. I had dark blue, and I dyed my hair a lighter auburn color, all the blue lifted from my hair when I dyed it. and I ended up with a nice auburn color. you will have to remember after you bleach your hair you will not be able to get it very dark with hair dye. Special effects will not fade nicely on unbleached hair, you will still have to dye your hair back to normal if you don’t bleach it, or it will fade to funny colors. Make sure you have someone that knows what they are doing bleaching yo
