Sound travels the fastest in solids,slower in liquids,and lowest in gases.The simplest example is,when you go near a railway track,and if you don’t see a train coming,and if you want to know whether the train is arriving or not,you put your 1 ear on the railway track.If the of you hear a slight sound from the track and some vibes,you can conclude that the train is nearby.This is because,sound is a kind of a disturbance through a medium and a disturbance travels the fastest in solids.
