Does SNCF care about the environment or sustainability issues?
SNCF aims to become the world’s first operator to offer carbon neutral travel at no extra cost to the customer. To this end, SNCF has launched a full-scale review of our environmental impact. SNCF has cut emissions on its cross channel Paris to London route by 31% in just two years by utilizing more electricity obtained from non-fossil fuel sources. SNCF has conducted its first “carbon review” of a complete regional branch line. SNCF’s 39 rolling stock production sites are in the process of “going green” and 9 sites are already ISO 14000 certified. We also practice sustainable purchasing: 80% of all purchase orders over $4 million involve a supplier assessment based on environmental criteria. Additionally, “Ecoparcours” is a new interactive website (www.ecoparcourster.sncf.com) developed by SNCF to enable the traveling public to calculate the environmental impact of its travel choices.
