Does slavery still exist in America?
I think slavery in its very sense does not exist any more in America. You might call it exploitation but slavery is quite different! Slavery-like systems today are much more subtile. No more a driver whith his snake-whip in his hand but a complete economic dependance for the workers who have to work hard to pay off their debts and as more they work and pay off their debts, the higher get their debts. These people are kept in complete economic dependance which makes it almost impossible to get out. So they toil over years for little money hoping to have off their debts one day. Slave-owners who were regarding their slaves as mere property like cattle were responsible to take of their property and already in ancien roman times their were slave-holders who tried get off by their old an weak slaves by freeing them and then the public would have been responsible for them.
