Does sinus surgery cure headaches?

0

This is a somewhat loaded question- headaches have many, many causes, and true “sinus” headaches are actually rare. If you attribute your headaches to sinusitis, when they are actually caused by something else, then no, sinus surgery will not cure your headaches. Some headaches (e.g., some types of migraine) may be triggered by sinus inflammation. Patients with this type of condition may experience an improvement in their headaches when the sinus inflammation is addressed with FESS. Sometimes, as a last resort, patients with severe headaches with no obvious cause, who also have limited sinus inflammation noted on a CT scan, may be offered sinus surgery to help with their headaches. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that this will improve or cure these headaches. Some patients are willing to take this risk, as sinus surgery is a relatively minor process to go through in order to provide possible improvement.
