Does SCI foresee any threat from foreign-based shipping companies?
Not at all. In fact, right from the beginning we have been facing and successfully overcoming competition from foreign-flagged shipping companies trying to get their pound of flesh from the Indian foreign trade. So whether they open fulltime shop in India or not doesn’t make any difference to us. Besides, before venturing into the global shipping business, one must not forget that shipping is the only field in the world where there is no statutory protection to any particular shipping company or any maritime country. What are SCI’s recent achievements besides the healthy balance sheet? We have progressed well in advance with all the mandatory International Ships and Port facility Security (ISPS) Code prescribed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) effective July 1, 2004.
