Does schools merger breach childrens human rights?

By [kmcinnes] POLITICIANS are investigating whether plans to force hundreds of pupils to transfer to a new faith-based academy will breach their human rights. The move comes after Stoke-on-Trent City Council unveiled proposals to merge Berry Hill High and St Peter’s C of E High, in Penkhull, to make way for a new Church Of England-backed academy in Fenton. It means all pupils at Berry Hill, when it closes in summer 2010, will automatically be moved on to the roll of a church school, even though their parents haven’t chosen a faith-based education for them. Now Stoke-on-Trent MPs Mark Fisher and Rob Flello are looking into whether this will contravene human rights laws.
