Does schizophrenia cause isolation or does isolation cause schizophrenia?
You probably can’t separate the two, since the isolation may begin before the illness has completely revealed itself, although it’s brewing beneath the surface. I say this because my two family members became isolated as their disease developed, over a period of years or decades. Once they became floridly delusional, they isolated themselves a lot more through paranoid fear and distrust of others.
