Does saw palmetto leaf work as well as the saw palmetto berry?
A. The active ingredients are found in the berry, not the saw palmetto leaf. We don’t think the saw palmetto leaf has been used in studies. Q. I’ve been taking 450 mg of Saw Palmetto herb daily for a few years and now have prostate cancer. I’m 78. Is it OK to continue taking Saw Palmetto herb? A. If the four components of saw palmetto are free fatty acids, phytosterols, free fatty alcohols, and monoglycerides, then I don’t understand how it can have a side effect similar to Propecia / finasteride? These components are found in other foods like berries, grains, fruit, etc, although in different combinations. It’s not like there is some component of saw palmetto that is unique to saw palmetto, right? A.
