Does RFID have any ecological relevance?
Need for action might arise in the future, with the expansion of the many single products having a RFID-transponders, because of the material composition of today’s transponders. The metal portion of the transponders, mainly the aluminium and silver content, could cause impurities in the recycled raw material (recycled paper, glass and granulated plastics) gained through the technical waste processing. To date however, experts (producers, users, disposers, science institutes) who have dealt with this question, are still unsure if and in what manner, transponders influence the quality of the recycled waste.
