Does RFA treat cancer of the esophagus?
RFA is generally used to treat Barrett’s esophagus, which is the precursor to a type of esophageal cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma. Most cases of esophageal adenocarcinoma will not be appropriate for RFA therapy. In some cases, a doctor may elect to use RFA in combination with endoscopic mucosal resection (a tissue removal technique performed during endoscopy) to treat very early forms of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Consult your doctor to determine the best management plan for your individual case.
