Does reversing the direction of my ceiling fan really improve heating my house?
It probably is a little better to have the fan push the slightly warmer air down, but that can come at the expense of making a room feel drafty. Using the lowest speed minimizes that effect, regardless of direction. How much heat you save depends on the set up of your house. If you have a heat source near the fan, running it definitely helps as it moves that warmed air into other rooms. If the room with the fan is at the end of the line in terms of your furnace ducts, it probably makes a minimal difference.
