Does removing the hood vents on the Z34 cause any harm or benefit?
Numerous Z34 owners have removed the hood vents both during summer months and year round to allow heat to exit the engine compartment and keep running temps cooler. Even those that have left them off during rainstorms and year round never complain of any damage, but if you are worried about allowing debris or water into the engine then you can modify the vents to allow them to be taken off or put on very quickly. What I did was cut the bottom rain gutter from the top mesh looking vent pieces. I reattached the vents to the car with the factory attachments adding a few black plastic flat ties to keep it tight, then attached heavy duty Velcro to each gutter topside and vent underside in the appropriate locations. Now I am able to pop on the rain gutters in a matter of seconds if I’m worried about rain or dirt getting into the engine compartment.
