Does Remote Spy Software comply with the Spy Act?
On October 5th, 2004 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Spy Act. This bill simply refers to the installation of advertsing or data-gathering spyware without the computer owner’s consent. Under the bill, it is STILL legal to install ANY program you want onto YOUR computer! It has always been illegal to install hidden software onto a machine if you don’t have the owner’s consent. The Spy Act criminalizes those who attempt to install software on a machine which they do not own, most of which cases are advertising-related. Spy software is 100% legal as long as the computer you are installing it on is YOUR computer.
