Yes, I think religion offers explanations for things that we don’t understand. Whatever we don’t understand, some attribute to God or something supernatural. This is one of the main purposes that religions serve. Religion also gives people a sense that their lives have some greater purpose. All people suffer, at some point, in one way or another, and life is not fair. With all the suffering and injustice in the world, people WANT to believe that there is some grand cause to justify all of this, and to give meaning and purpose to human suffering. Religions fill this want. People also want to believe that there is something magical beyond our everyday experience of reality. Lots of songs have religious references, and many books and movies do too, but I think this is just because religious beliefs have been with man since, well probably since humans first became self-aware, and started asking questions about why we’re here, why we live, why we die, and why we even exist.
